Terminal:
Volpe operates within a single terminal hub infrastructure, which produces optimum control and flexibility. Our system allows minimum handling, thereby reducing overall exposure to potential claim situations and service failures. All of our PA, NJ, DE, MD, and New York City points are serviced with next day delivery. We operate out of a 61-door state of the art terminal facility and separate shop with truck wash. This facility is situated on 12 acres of ground with provisions in place for future growth.
Equipment:
Our current fleet consists of 77 tractors, 2 straight trucks, 221 trailers ranging in size from 28 foot (pup trailers) to 48-foot maximum width, and 2 refrigerated trailers. All equipment is company owned, operated and maintained. We employ 5 full time mechanics operating around the clock.
Communication:
A transportation service company can possess the newest equipment and most dedicated personnel but without proper communication equipment it will fail. Volpe Express understands this and constantly looks to improve in both areas. In order to assure delivery times while still possessing flexibility to change plans on a moments notice, we have two-way communication between each tractor and our dispatch department. Currently we are utilizing a Nextel combination radio/cell phone system to guarantee contact with drivers in any location. This along with our satellite tracking system enables us to be in constant contact with all drivers and equipment. Communication between the customer and our office is an integral part of our business. Pickups can be requested by phone, fax, e-mail, and EDI. Tracing and proof of delivery inquiries can be made utilizing the same methods. Volpe Express also has a document management system. All bills of lading and delivery receipts are bar coded and scanned allowing us even quicker response times.
